Input sought on RACF medication management projects
The Consumers Health Forum of Australia is seeking consumers who are interested in informing the direction of two projects aimed at improving medication use in residential aged care facilities (RACFs) being conducted by the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI).
The forum is looking for individuals who have lived experience of residential aged care homes or those who have ideas for how medication management in residential aged care in Australia could be improved.
Project 1 — Medication Management
The project aims to investigate how digital technologies can be used to improve the process of managing the medications of aged care residents and thus improve their overall health. This includes developing and testing an electronic decision support tool to improve the medication management process; and developing and testing a medication real-time notification service for residents and their families/carers.
Project 2 — Electronic Medication Management Review (eMMR) tool
The project aims to improve the safe use of medicines in residential aged care by creating a digital one-stop platform for faster and easier medication reviews by pharmacists. The platform hopes to allow all stakeholders, including pharmacists, GPs, residents and their carers, and aged care staff, to monitor the medication review process.
