Publication of new aged care data and digital strategy
The Department of Health and Aged Care has published its Aged Care Data and Digital Strategy and Action Plan 2024–2029.
This plan provides a direction for the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care for older people. It is designed to use data and digital innovation to drive a sustainable productive care and support economy.
It also responds to the increasing and potential use of data and digital technology to enhance care and wellbeing. In order to innovate for the future, the department is working with its partners, older people, their families and carers, aged care providers and workers, health professionals, and IT vendors and developers.
The strategy and action plan enables a digitally connected aged care system that empowers older people and grows the sector’s digital capacity.
It envisions a future where older people are supported by data and digital technologies to improve opportunities for face-to-face contact with aged care workers, as well as to obtain more ways to access the information and services they need.
Advancing data and digital technologies will also help aged care providers to manage current and future service demand, reduce administrative burden and give workers more time to spend on direct care.
The strategy and action plan directs future investment, including frameworks and guidelines, to ensure data and digital solutions remain people-centred.
